Mysore Ashtanga Yoga

Mysore Ashtanga Yoga class is a self-paced Ashtanga yoga practice with each student practicing the poses in sequence from memory, and at their own pace. This is the traditional method for learning Ashtanga Yoga as taught by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois in Mysore, India. *Surya Namaskara A & B, as well as, the standing postures of Ashtanga are recommended as a foundation for beginning a mysore practice. This foundation is appropriate for beginning students and can be learned by attending a few led classes. Individualized instruction and adjustments are given allowing one's practice to grow as the student grows.

-Mysore sessions are longer sessions (2 hours). Students can come and go within this block of time as their schedule allows. Longer sessions also allow students to spend extra time on postures that are new and/or are challenging.

Appropriate for anyone who wants a personal Ashtanga yoga practice.

Ashtanga yoga is a therapeutic system of yoga consisting of a set series of poses beginning with surya namaskara A and B (sun salutations), moving on to standing poses, seated poses, backbends, and inversions before relaxation. This system is designed to create an internal heat to detoxify the body by cleansing muscles and internal organs, as well as improving circulation and overall health. Continued practice has a calming effect on the mind while building strength, flexibility, balance, and stamina in the body.

Beginners are welcome and encouraged to try all classes. Modifications are always offered as an alternative to more challenging poses. Discover your potential by exploring all the possibilities. See you in class!
